"Apaydin refugee camp like other ones in Turkey"

HATAY (AA) - September 4, 2012 - Chairman of the Turkish parliamentary human right commission has said that Apaydin camp where defected Syrian military members currently stay is not different than other refugee camps in Turkey.
"We obviously see that there is no difference between Apaydin camp and other camps that we have visited so for. Tents, children... everybody is here. It is a very confined and overcrowded place. So there is no difference between this camp and other ones in Turkey. However, we are continuing our observation here," Ayhan Sefer Ustun, the head of the commission, told Anadolu Agency (AA) while the commission is carrying out its inquiry at the camp.
Giving detailed numbers of people who are staying in the camp, "2,764 people are currently staying here. Approximately, 300 of them are soldiers, police officers and public servants. In respect to this, nearly 80 percent of them include women and children. So it is impossible to carry out a different task here, physical condition of the camps is not suitable for this," Ustun said.
In terms of accepting AA as only media organization to enter the camp while the commission having its visit, "There were plenty of TV channels and news agencies here, however, we decided to allow only Anadolu Agency because it is not possible to show around with all tv channels. The information will be broadcast via Anadolu Agency," said Ustun.
The commission is continuing its observation at the camp.
