Abouel Fotouh calls for return of popular committee

Presidential hopeful Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh on Monday called for political forces to organize popular committees on the streets to restore security, if the government is unable to gain security control within ten days.
In a statement on Monday, Abouel Fotouh blamed the “deteriorating situation in Egypt” on the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and the interim government.
Abouel Fotouh called on the SCAF and Prime Minister Essam Sharaf’s government to restore security in ten days.
He warned that people's suffering and loss of confidence in state institutions could lead to a backlash against the revolution.
Abouel Fotouh called on revolutionary coalitions, political groups and potential presidential candidates to adopt strong positions toward the security deterioration. He also set April 2012 as a deadline for handing over power to a civilian government.
His statement called on the SCAF and the cabinet to draw up an economic plan to be announced in September that will boost Egypt's economy.
Citizens formed popular committees to protect neighborhoods and maintain order during the revolution after security forces withdrew from the streets.
