Egyptian MP survived assassination attempt: Brotherhood party

Unidentified assailants have attempted to kill Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) member Hassan El-Berence on Friday, the FJP said in a brief statement.
“Media reports which said some people have opened fire on El-Berence are not accurate. All what we know is that a car chased his before hitting it. The assailants tried to turn over the car of El-Berence,” the FJP said of the People Assembly's member.
El-Berence is a member in the parliamentary committee which pushes for the transfer of ousted President Hosni Mubarak from the International Medical Centre, a military hospital on the Cairo-Ismailia road, to Tora Prison Hospital.
The leading Alexandria-based Muslim Brotherhood member announced recently that he had received death threats because of his efforts in this headline-grabbing saga.
Mubarak, 83, has been staying at the Medical Centre since his trial started on 3 August. He is facing various charges, including killing protesters during the 2011 January revolution.
The criminal court will deliver its verdict in the case on 2 June.
